As Jesus left His disciples, He promised them a counselor He called the Spirit of Truth and we call the Holy Spirit. The most misunderstood person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is the one closest to us all.

Earlier in his gospel, John tells us that Jesus described the Holy Spirit as the wind, invisible, but powerful. In Acts, the Holy Spirit came to the assembled disciples as a sudden wind and tongues of flame. Throughout the New Testament, the Holy Spirit worked through the disciples to spread the gospel by signs and wonders.

The Holy Spirit remains with us today as an equal member of the Holy Trinity and our connection with God. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis, “We pray to God above as through Jesus, God, who stands beside us, by the power of the Holy Spirit who is within us”.

“The wind blows where it chooses and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)
